Broadway’s Hilton Theatre to Be Renamed Foxwoods Theatre; Spider-Man Musical to Be First Tenant

Foxwoods Resort Casino and Live Nation have entered into a multi-year agreement that grants Foxwoods the exclusive naming rights to what was formerly Broadway’s Hilton Theatre, which is being renamed the Foxwoods Theatre effective today. The first tenant in the newly renamed venue is the new musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Foxwoods Theatre, operated by Live Nation, accommodates nearly 2,000 theater-goers. The venue was originally constructed in 1996 on the site of the Apollo and Lyric Theatres, and for a time was known as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

As previously reported, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, to be directed by Julie Taymor, features music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of the band U2, and a book by Taymor and Glen Berger. Reeve Carney will play Peter Parker/Spider Man. No other casting has been officially announced, although published reports have stated that Jennifer Damiano will play Mary Jane and Patrick Page will be the Green Goblin. The musical is expected to begin previews at the Foxwoods Theatre in the fall, although no dates have yet been announced.
