Another Year, Hereafter, The Social Network, The Tempest, et al. Set for New York Film Festival

Selections have been announced for the 21010 New York Film Festival, which runs September 24-October 10 at Lincoln Center.

Julie Taymor’s new movie treatment of Shakespeare’s The Tempest will be shown as the Festival’s centerpiece on October 2. The film stars Helen Mirren as Prospera, as well as Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Djimon Hounsou, David Strathairn, Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming, Ben Whishaw, Reeve Carney, and Felicity Jones.

The Social Network, which features a screenplay by playwright Aaron Sorkin, has been selected as the opening night feature. David Fincher has directed the film, which explores the founding of Facebook, and which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake.

The festival’s closing night selection will be Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter, written by Frost/Nixon‘s Peter Morgan and starring Matt Damon as a psychic and Cecile de France as a journalist..

Among the other films to be shown are Mike Leigh’s Another Year, starring Jim Broadbent, Lesley Manville, and Imelda Staunton; Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff starring Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, Paul Dano, and Zoe Kazan; and Jean Luc-Godard’s Film Socialisme.
