Puppet and mask maker Ralph Lee will bring his theater piece Beyond the High Valley to the Outdoor Garden of St. John the Divine for its New York premiere. Performed by Lee’s Mettawee River Theatre Company, Valley will run September 11-20.

The play, drawn from a folk story of the Quecha people, descendants of the Incas of Peru, focuses how a giant condor and a tiny hummingbird battle over a young woman. The puppets and other visual elements of the production have been designed to communicate both the intimate details of the story and the expansive landscape in which it unfolds.

Neal Kirkwood will provide the original music for guitar, percussion and double bass. Valley will be performed by Kim Gambino, Greg Manley, Tom Marion, Jan-Peter Pedross, and Monica Santana.
