John Patrick Shanley Receives Humanitas Prize Nomination

Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley is among the nominees for the 2009 Humanitas Prize, which will be handed out in Beverly Hills on September 17.

Shanley, who was nominated for the screenplay for Doubt, will compete against Oscar winners Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Dustin Lance Black (Milk), as well as Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Jim Reardon (Wall-E), and Gina Prince Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees).

Other nominees include writers John Pielmeier, Amanda Green, David Hoselton, Jason Katims, David Zabel, Aseem Batra, Robert Carlock, John Frink, Jamie Rhonheimer, Cherien Dabis, Shana Feste, and Marie Noelle.

Shanley’s many plays include Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Defiance and Romantic Poetry. He also won the Oscar for the screenplay for Moonstruck.
