G.I. Joe, Julie & Julia Lead U.S. Box Office

Nora Ephron’s film Julie and Julia, starring stage veteran and Oscar winner Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Oscar nominee Amy Adams as writer Julie Powell, is expected to gross over $20 million in its opening weekend, according to published reports.

The film will place second in U.S. box office receipts behind G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra (featuring upcoming Broadway performer Sienna Miller), which is expected to gross over $56 million.

In addition to actors Stanley Tucci and Chris Messina, who play the women’s husbands, the cast features a host of New York stage actors, including Linda Emond, Helen Carey, Erin Dilly, Brooks Ashmanskas, Deborah Rush, Remak Ramsay, Stephen Bogardus, Kacie Sheik, George Bartenieff, Byron Jennings, Kelly AuCoin, Richard Bekins, Robert Emmet Lunney, and Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen.
