De’Adre Aziza to Join Jessye Norman, et al. for Ask Your Mama at Hollywood Bowl

Tony Award nominee De’Adre Aziza, who appeared on Broadway in Passing Strange, will join the previously announced Jessye Norman, Nnenna Freelon, and The Roots in Laura Karpman’s multimedia concert work Ask Your Mama! at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, August 30 at 7:30pm. The work is based on poet Langston Hughes’ 1961 cycle Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz. George Manahan will conduct.

Other upcoming highlights of the Bowl’s 2009 summer season will include Bramwell Tovey conducting the music of Leonard Bernstein (August 18); Patti LaBelle (August 19); and Sing-A-Long Sound of Music (September 26).
