Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has announced details of its annual season at New York's City Center, which will celebrate Judith Jamison's 20th anniversary as artistic director.

The season will kick off on December 2 with a gala honoring Oscar winner Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta, with proceeds going Ailey's scholarship fund and educational programs for children.

During the season, which runs through January 3, the company will present a new production of Jamison's "Hymn," in which Anna Deavere Smith will appear at certain performances; a special "Best of 20 Years" program; a world premiere by Jamison; the world premiere of Ronald K. Brown's "Dancing Spirit"; the word premiere of Matthew Rushing's "Uptown"; and the world premiere of Robert Battle's solo piece "In/Side" set to Nina Simone's "Wild is the Wind."

The company's repertory will also include "Blues Suite," "Episodes," "Festa Barocca," "Love Stories," "Memoria," "Night Creature," "Revelations," "Suite Otis," "Treading," and "Unfold."
