Alex Ko, Kate Hennig to Join Broadway’s Billy Elliot; Kiril Kulish, David Bologna, Haydn Gwynne to Exit

Alex Ko and Kate Hennig will join the Broadway cast of Billy Elliot the Musical, at the Imperial Theatre, beginning the week of October 6. In addition, it has been announced that Tony winner Kiril Kulish will play his final performance as Billy on October 3, Tony nominee Haydn Gwynne will play her final performance as Mrs. Wilkinson on October 4, and Tony nominee David Bologna will play his final performance as Michael on September 27.

Based on the 2000 film of the same name, the show tells the tale of a young boy with a dream of being a dancer. The Broadway production is directed by Stephen Daldry, and features music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, and choreography by Peter Darling. The production won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Director, and Best Book of a Musical.

Ko will join the rotation as the musical’s title character, along with David Alvarez, Tommy Batchelor, and Trent Kowalik. Hennig will replace Gwynne as Mrs. Wilkinson. In addition, understudy Keean Johnson will move into the regular rotation as Michael, sharing the role with Trevor Braun. The cast also features Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma, and Will Chase as Tony.
