PBS will air Grey Gardens: From East Hampton to Broadway, the new documentary film produced by East of Doheny with Albert Maysles. It will be presented nationwide on the Emmy Award-winning Independent Lens, hosted by Terrence Howard, on Tuesday, December 23.

Captured in the 1975 Maysles’ film Grey Gardens, Edith Beale and her daughter Edie, aunt and cousin to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, are a unique and engaging mother daughter pair and their story soon catapulted them to cult icon status. This 50-minute documentary examines the creative journey of Maysles’ cult classic from nonfiction film to Broadway musical. Directed by Michael Greif, with a book by Doug Wright and a score by Michael Korie and Scott Frankel, the production was nominated for ten Tony Awards, and won three, including for star Christine Ebersole.

The documentary features behind-the-scenes footage of the show’s rehearsals, performance and interviews with the creators and cast, as well as an interview with Albert Maysles, and relevant insights from Beale authorities, devotees, cultural commentators, audiences, and fans.
