St. Ann’s Warehouse has announced the line up for its 2008-2009 season, which will include work from the Wooster Group, Mabou Mines, the National Theatre of Scotland, Dan Hurlin, and Cynthia Hopkins.

The season will kick off with a two-month return engagement of Gregory Burke’s Black Watch, October 9-November 30, in partnership with the National Theatre of Scotland. With John Tiffany at the helm, the play is a first-hand view of the war in Iraq through the eyes of a Scottish Army regiment. Hurlin’s Disfarmer, January 27-February 8, will kick off the new year as his first new object theater work since his award-winning puppet-theater piece, Hiroshima Maiden, which premiered at St. Ann’s Warehouse in 2003.

Mabou Mines will mount the fifth anniversary of its piece, DollHouse, February 12-March 9. In it, Lee Breuer turns Ibsen’s similarly named work on its head by physicalizing the equation of power and scale. The male characters are played by actors whose heights range from 3’4″ to 4’5″, while the female characters are played by actors nearly 6′ tall. The Wooster Group will present La Didone, March 17-April 26, the company’s distinctive take on Francesco Cavalli’s baroque opera with a libretto by Giovanni Francesco Busenello. Directed by Elizabeth LeCompte, with music direction by Bruce Odland, the cast will include Hai-Ting Chinn, Ari Fliakos, Jennifer Griesbach, Hank Heijink, Andrew Nolen, Kamala Sankaram, Scott Shepherd, Harvey Valdes, Kate Valk, Judson Williams, and John Young.

Finally, Cynthia Hopkins will present The Success of Failure (or, the Failure of Success), May 22-June 7, conceived as part III of a trilogy that includes Accidental Nostalgia and Must Don’t Whip ‘Um. Directed by D.J. Mendel, the play depicts the heroic saga of Ruom Yes Noremac’s secret mission to save the world. Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg will design the production.
