Albee, Keitel, Modine, Seldes, et al. to Participate in Harold Clurman Festival

Edward Albee, Harvey Keitel, Matthew Modine, and Marian Seldes will be among the participants in the second annual Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, to be presented by the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, September 14-17.

“Art and Social Activism” is the theme of the festival, which will comprise four days of theater, poetry readings, concerts and symposia. It will kick off Friday, September 14 at 7pm with a symposium on “Artists and Activism” featuring Albee, Roy Scheider, and Mike Medavoy. Additionally, Seldes will read Albee’s 1998 speech to the American Council for the Arts, which inspired the opening night symposium.

Theatre critic Howard Kissel will moderate the festival’s closing symposium on Monday, September 17 at 7pm, “The Life and Work of Stella Adler.” The evening will feature students of Adler’s, including Ellen Adler, Keitel, James Lipton, Modine, Betsy Parrish, and Holland Taylor.

Other events include a production of Lee Blessing’s Two Rooms, a Movement and Dance performance choreographed/directed by Steve Cook, a concert with David Amram, a production of A Tale of Two Cities adapted by Everett Quinton, and a reading/discussion with Ishmael Beah (author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier), Zlata Filipovic (author of Zlata’s Diary: A Child’s Life in Wartime Sarajevo), and Olara Otunno (former UN special representative for children and armed conflict).
