John Rubinstein to Star in Los Angeles Production of Urinetown

John Rubinstein will star as Caldwell B. Cladwell in the Interact Theatre Company’s production of the Tony Award-winning musical Urinetown at the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles, September 16-October 22.

The show will be directed by Calvin Remsberg, and will also star Matthew Ashford, who plays Jack Deveraux on NBC’s Days of Our Lives, as Senator Fipp, and stage veteran Amanda Carlin as Miss Pennywise. The cast includes Annie Abbott, Doug Ballard, Rona Benson, James Calvert, Amanda Carlin, Emily Janice Card, James Cooper, Robert Briscoe Evans, Marc Fellner, James Greene, Steven Hack, John Hemphill, Liz Herron, Rob Kahn, Jean Kauffman, Jason Lewis, Kelly Lohman, Sharon Madden, Tracy Powell, Melanie Rockwell, and Vanessa Whitney.

Written by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollman, Urinetown tells the story of Gotham-like city where the depletion of the water supply has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. In 2002, the show received Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical, among other honors.

Rubinstein won a Tony for his performance in Children of a Lesser God. Among his other Broadway credits are Pippin, Fools, Hurlyburly, M. Butterfly, and Ragtime. He was most recently seen Off-Broadway in Counsellor-at-Law.
