Full Cast Set for Stephen Belber’s A Small, Melodramatic Story

Carlo Alban, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Lee Sellars, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. will star in the LAByrinth Theatre Company’s production of Stephen Belber’s A Small, Melodramatic Story, October 10-November 5 at The Public Theater. Directed by Belber’s wife, Lucie Tiberghien, the show will open officially on October 22.

The play is set in Washington D.C., where a widow named O is trying to figure out whether or not she wants to re-engage in life. Also on hand are Keith, an archivist; Perry, a cop; and Cleo, a kid. Belber’s plays include Match, McReele, Carol Mulroney, and Tape; Tiberghien has directed such shows as The Pavilion and The Winning Streak.

Alban, whose stage credits include References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot and The Night of the Iguana, received an ALMA Award nomination for the TNT film Thicker Than Blood. Bernstine has been seen in such shows as (I Am) Nobody’s Lunch and Matt and Ben, while Sellars’ stage credits include The Alchemist, The Pillowman, and Rounding Third. Whitlock received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Four; he was seen in the Broadway revival of The Iceman Cometh, the Atlantic Theatre Company’s production of The Cherry Orchard, and the national tour of The Piano Lesson; and he currently stars as Senator Clay Davis on the HBO series The Wire.
