Austin Pendleton will star Off-Broadway in Cormac McCarthy’s The Sunset Limited at 59E59 Theaters, October 24-November 19. The play had its world premiere earlier this year at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater, starring Pendleton and Freeman Coffey, who will recreate their roles in New York under the direction of Sheldon Patinkin.

The Sunset Limited concerns a startling encounter on a New York subway platform that leads two strangers to a rundown tenement where a life-or-death decision must be made. McCarthy is the author of the best-selling novel All the Pretty Horses; his other books include The Crossing and No Country for Old Men.

Pendleton has been an actor for more than five decades. He appeared in the original Broadway productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Shelter, and Grand Hotel, and in the 1997 revival of The Diary of Anne Frank. He is the author of such plays as Uncle Bob and Orson’s Shadow, and he is an acclaimed director who received a Tony Award nomination for his work on the 1981 revival of The Little Foxes.

Coffey made his Steppenwolf debut in The Sunset Limited and has appeared at such Chicago-area theaters as The Goodman, Victory Gardens, and the Northlight.
