2006 Barrymore Award Nominees Announced

The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia has announced the nominees for the 2006 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Monday, October 23 at 7pm at the Merriam Theater; actress/singer Mary Martello will serve as host.


In addition to the awards in the competitive categories the Barrymores include a Lifetime Achievement Award, a Special Recognition Award, and The F. Otto Haas Award, which carries a $10,000 prize for the winner and a $1,000 award for each runner-up. The 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award honors the career of Robert Hedley, while the winner of the Special Recognition Award is ComedySportz Philadelphia. This year’s nominees for the Haas award are Tony Braithwaite, Ben Dibble, Lee Ann Etzold, Matt Saunders, and Charlotte Cloe Fox Wind.

The nominees for Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service are Delaware Theatre Company’s Programs for Youth, InterAct Theatre Company’s InterAction, Lantern Theater Company’s Illumination, and Philadelphia Theatre Company’s PTC Drama Contact; the winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize. The nominees for the Ted and Stevie Wolf Award for New Approaches to Collaborations are Arden Theatre Company & Vertigo String Quartet for Opus, and Lantern Theater Company & Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts for The Trial of Richard III.


At the October 23 ceremony, the recipients of the Suzanne Roberts Theatre Alliance Scholarship Award and the Joseph Cairns, Jr. & Ernestine Bacon Cairns Memorial Scholarship Award will also be announced. The scholarships are given to incoming freshmen in the University of the Arts Applied Theatre Arts program and Music Theatre program.
