O’Connell and Price to Headline Schulman’s Manic Flight Reaction

Obie winner Deirdre O’Connell and TV star Molly Price head the cast of Sarah Schulman’s Manic Flight Reaction, which will begin performances at Playwright Horizons’ Peter Jay Sharp Theater on October 13. The production, to be directed by Trip Cullman, will officially open on October 23.

The play focuses on the discovery by a middle-aged professor (O’Connell) that one of her mother’s past liaisons (Price) is now the wife of the leading candidate for President. The show’s cast also includes Jessica Collins, Angel Desai, Michael Esper, and Austin Lysy. The production will feature scenic design by Louisa Thompson, costume design by Jenny Mannis, lighting design by Paul Whitaker, and sound design by Fitz Patton.

O’Connell received the 2005 Obie Award for Sustained Achievement; she has previously appeared at Playwrights Horizons in Spatter Pattern, or How I Got Away with It and Moe’s Lucky Seven. Price played Officer Faith Yokas for six seasons on the NBC drama Third Watch and appeared on Broadway in Salome.

Schulman’s most recent plays include Correct Usage and Common Errors and Carson McCullers. She has received the Stonewall Award for Significant Contribution to Gay and Lesbian Life in the United States and a Guggenheim Award for playwriting. Cullman’s directorial credits include Swimming in the Shallows and The Last Sunday in June.
