Jeff Calhoun, who directed the Broadway productions of Brooklyn: The Musical, Big River, and Grease!, is heading Off-Off-Broadway. He’ll helm Rob Nash’s solo show Holy Cross Sucks!, which will play at the Ars Nova Theater from August 31 through October 1.

Holy Cross Sucks! follows six friends — all played by Nash — through their turbulent high school years in the 1980s. Nash has previously performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Montreal Comedy Festival; his work has been produced at a variety of regional theaters, including Stages in Houston and The Cable Car in San Francisco.

Calhoun received a Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography for Grease! As a performer, he appeared on Broadway in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and My One and Only with Tommy Tune; he later worked with Tune on the choreography for The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public and The Will Rogers Follies, in addition to directing the star’s 1992 solo show Tommy Tune Tonight! More recently, he won Ovation Awards for productions of Big River and Oliver! at the Deaf West Theater in Los Angeles.
