Plays by Clifford Odets, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and Terrence McNally, will be presented as part of the Fall 2005 season of Food for Thought, which will take place September 12-December 19 at the group’s new home, The Players Club (16 Gramercy Club South).

The season will have a political slant, says founding artistic director Susan Charlotte. “With the country so divided into red and blue states, and such acrimony between the religious right and those interested in protecting and preserving personal liberties and choices, I thought it would be fascinating to get an historical perspective by showcasing a variety of classic and current writers dealing with political issues throughout history up to our present time.”

Among the works to be presented at this lunch-time showcase are Odets’ Waiting for Lefty, Miller’s The Last Yankee, Williams’ Demolition Downtown, and McNally’s Next. Also on the schedule are Dorothy Parker’s Actor Strike Benefits, Harold Pinter’s Night School, Noel Coward’s Hands Across the Sea, Luigi Pirandello’s The Other Son, Joyce Carol Oates’ Gulf War, George Bernard Shaw’s Great Catherine, Eugene Ionesco’s The Bald Soprano, and a new work by Charlotte.

Special events this season include a 90th birthday celebration for Miller on October 17, to be hosted by actress Joan Copeland (Miller’s sister), and a black-tie dinner on October 25 in honor of Williams, to be hosted by Rex Reed. Partial proceeds from each of these two special events will provide financial scholarships to emerging writers.
