The Broken Watch Company will kick off its 2005-2006 season with a production of Christopher Kyle’s The Safety Net, September 16-October 2. The company has taken possession of the former Sande Shurin Theater (311 West 43rd Street) and has renamed it the Michael Weller Theater in honor of the acclaimed playwright; the space will be formally dedicated during a ceremony preceding the 7pm performance on Sunday, September 18.

In The Safety Net, a young man goes to great lengths to help save the family of his recently deceased adopted brother, neglecting his own marriage and legal career in the process. The Broken Watch production will be directed by Martha Banta and will star Jason Pugatch, Tinashe Kajese, Eva Kaminsky, Maren Perry, Peggy Scott, and Mark Setlock (of Fully Committed fame). The creative team consists of J. Wiese (sets), Cora Levin (costumes), Miriam Nifola Crowe (lighting), and Jill B.C. DuBoff (sound).

In December, Broken Watch will present A Broken Christmas Carol by James Christy, J. Holtham, Kendra Levin, and Robert Vaguhan, to be followed in February 2006 by Christy’s Never Tell. Both productions will be directed by Drew DeCorleto.
