A new production of the musical Oliver! with Colm Feore as Fagin, Dion Boucicault’s London Assurance starring and directed by Brian Bedford, and a revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific will be among the 15 offerings of the 2006 Stratford Festival of Canada. The festival is set to begin on May 29 and will continue through mid-November.

Bedford will play the role of Harcourt Courtly in London Assurance, the same role that earned him a Tony Award nomination for the Roundabout Theatre’s 1997 production of the comedy. Feore, seen on Broadway earlier this year as Cassius in Julius Caesar, will take on the title roles in Moliére’s Don Juan and Shakespeare’s Coriolanus in addition to Fagin.

Three other Shakespeare plays will be on view in the festival: Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and Henry IV, Part I. Also scheduled is The Duchess of Malfi, by John Webster (a contemporary of the Bard). Other offerings include Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts, and Pierre Corneille’s The Liar.
