Ellen Schiff to Lecture on American Jewish Theater at Drama Book Shop

Ellen Schiff, editor of the critical anthology Awake and Singing, will give a talk on the heritage of American Jewish theater on Tuesday, September 14 as part of the “Plays and Playwrights” series at The Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street), beginning at 6pm. A book signing will follow.

Awake and Singing provides a cultural and historical overview of American Jewish plays and playwriting. In the book, Schiff addresses the diversity of the Jewish experience as depicted on stage, taking a detailed look at the role and contributions of the producers and impresarios, the arts patrons, the performers, the playwrights, and the dramas themselves.
