Based on the classic Lorraine Hansberry drama A Raisin in the Sun, which was just revived on Broadway, Raisin has music by Judd Woldin, lyrics by Robert Britton, and a book by Robert Nemiroff and Charlotte Zaltzberg. The cast of the concert will include Chuck Cooper, Lillias White, Norm Lewis, Kenita Miller, Venida Evans, and Tamara Tunie.
As part of the event, Amas will present the Rosie Award -- named in honor of Amas founder Rosetta LeNoire, who died in 2002 -- to actor, choreographer, director, and designer Geoffrey Holder; dancer and choreographer Carmen deLavallade; and Jim Turley, CEO of Ernst & Young. And the Rosetta LeNoire Scholarship will be bestowed upon a deserving college-bound student now attending Amas's Rosetta LaNoire Musical Theatre Academy.
Tickets for Raisin range in price from $100 to $500 and may be purchased by calling 212-563-2565. The doors will open at 6:15pm on October 25 for a champagne reception; the awards ceremony and show will begin at 7pm. Dinner and a raffle will follow at the West Bank Café for Gold and Platinum ticket holders.
