New Voices Prize to Assist Creators of New Musicals

It’s just been announced that the National Music Theater Network and the Theater for the American Musical, Inc. have joined to collaborate on the New Voices Prize, intended for young or emerging authors of new musicals.

Writers under the age of 35 who have never had a full production of their work may submit a completed musical; one author or writing team will be selected to receive prizes including a New York presentation, at least one regional presentation, a studio cast recording and bulk CD pressing, logo design, casting services, a promotional video, a promotional pack, and more.

All musicals submitted will be evaluated by a group of New York directors who will recommend their selections to a final committee. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2003. Submission forms or additional information about the National Music Theater Network are available by visiting www.nmtn.org, and more information about the Theater for the American Musical, Inc. is available at www.americanmusicals.org.
