Theater fans who were dismayed that the presentations of Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement to the legendary actress Julie Harris and the late, great producer Robert Whitehead were not included in either the PBS or CBS portions of this year’s Tony telecast might want to make a point of attending a seminar to be offered by the American Theatre Wing this Thursday, August 8.

Titled “Taking Over for a Star,” the seminar will be moderated by Peter Stone; the scheduled participants are Rhea Perlman, Marilu Henner, and Richard Kind (currently appearing on Broadway in The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife), Brad Oscar and Steven Webber (The Producers), and Hal Linden (Cabaret). In addition to that lineup, a special feature of the event will be the screening of complete footage of the Lifetime Achievement Tonys to Harris and Whitehead. (The Tony Awards are presented annually by the American Theatre Wing in partnership with the League of American Theatres and Producers).

Produced by Isabelle Stevenson and Roy Somlyo, chairman and president (respectively) of the ATW, the “Working in the Theatre” seminars were developed as a resource for the theater community. This Thursday’s seminar will take place from 1 to 3pm at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. Admission is free but seating is limited.
