Delay of Game! Televised Times Square Kickoff Causes Broadway and TKTS to Regroup

In anticipation of the crowds for “NFL Kickoff Live from Times Square,” Broadway shows and the TKTS booth will be making a few schedule changes on Thursday, September 5.

All Broadway shows will push back their curtain times to 8:30pm from the usual starting time of 8pm. Producers hope this change will prevent a rush of latecomers delayed by the throngs of football fans who will be in the theater district that day.

The Theater Development Fund, which runs the discount ticket booth TKTS, has also announced special hours and conditions of sale for that day. Theatergoers are advised that the booth will open at 10am for tickets to the evening performance and will remain open as long as the booth remains accessible in the crowd. TKTS will keep normal hours for the Wednesday matinee on September 4, from 10am to 2pm; but from 3pm to 8pm that day, the booth will sell tickets for both Wednesday and Thursday evening performances. Said TDF director Victoria Bailey, “We feel that this shift in hours was the best way for TDF to help serve the theatergoing public and support the productions.”
