Another Reprieve for Rappaport: Revival to Continue its Broadway Run Until Further Notice

Judd Hirsch and Ben Vereen will continue hectoring each other on stage at the Booth Theatre until further notice. For the second week in a row, the producers of I’m Not Rappaport, in which Hirsch and Vereen star, have taken down a provisional closing notice for the show due to “strong box office sales.”

This revival of Herb Gardner’s comedy, a 1986 Tony Award winner for Best Play, came to Broadway following a lengthy tour. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, Rappaport began previews at the Booth on July 12 and opened officially on July 25. In the show, Hirsch and Vereen play Nat and Midge, two oldsters who meet on a bench in Central Park and become involved in some hilariously contentious discussions, not to mention a wildly far-fetched scheme. Hirsch is recreating the role for which he won a Tony Award in 1986; Vereen, who copped a Tony for his performance in Pippin, was last seen on Broadway in Fosse.

Also featured in the cast of I’m Not Rappaport are Anthony Arkin, Mimi Lieber, Steven Boyer, Jeb Brown, and Tanya Clark. The show’s producers are Elliot Martin, Lewis Allen, Ron Shapiro, James Cushing, Bud Yorkin, Roy Miller, and Mari Nakachi.
