1st Annual Starving Artists Ball to be Hosted by Lewis Black and Charles Busch

On Thursday, August 29, Studio 42 and TheaterMania.com will present the first annual Starving Artists Ball at The Culture Project. The event will be hosted by comedian Lewis Black (best known for his rants on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show) and a keynote address will be delivered by writer-actor-director Charles Busch, whose hit comedy The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife is currently playing on Broadway and on tour.

The Starving Artists Ball was created as a networking opportunity for New York City’s downtown arts crowd. From 8pm to midnight, artists will have a chance to meet, mingle, and mix it up while enjoying a dinner, an open bar, and music provided by SoHo Grand house D.J. Ben Butler. Some of the proceeds of the event will go towards establishing the Starving Artists Award, a prize to be given annually to a worthy individual or organization. Other proceeds will benefit Studio 42, an up-and-coming theater production company now in its second year of bringing new work to the stage.

Ticket prices for the ball range from $50 (for starving artists) to $250 (for presumably well-fed patrons); tickets may be purchased by calling 212-352-3101 or online at www.theatermania.com/starvingartists. The Culture Project is located at 45 Bleecker Street.
