Clear your theatergoing schedule for 8pm on August 27. This shouldn't be a difficult task, as not many Broadway shows have Sunday evening performances. But Jesus Christ Superstar will play that night in a one-time-only benefit for The Actors' Fund.
The Fund is a national, nonprofit organization that serves not only actors but all professionals in the entertainment industry. Its areas of involvement include substance abuse, mental health services, senior and disabled care, nursing home and assisted living care, an AIDS Initiative, The Actors' Work Program, the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, the Artists' Health Insurance Resource Center, and supportive housing on both coasts. Founded in 1882, the Fund has earned a stellar reputation from over a century of service.
Of course, contributing to a worthwhile charity is only one reason to attend this performance. Another is the performance itself; Jesus Christ Superstar is closing on September 3. And savvy theatergoers know that Actors' Fund benefit performances tend to be especially exciting for actors and audiences alike.
Tickets for the benefit are currently available at the regular box office prices of $81 to $26. For reservations, phone The Actors' Fund at 212-221-7300, ext. 133/134.
