The Yiddish production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, in its European premiere, will open the 3rd annual Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival in Northern Ireland, beginning July 31 and offering performances through August 10. The production first opened at New York's Castillo Theatre on September 22, 2013 and will return to Manhattan for an off-Broadway run at the Barrow Street Theatre beginning September 4. It will also open the Origin's 1st Irish Festival, playing three weeks of performances through September 21.
The new Yiddish Rep production of Beckett's absurdist play about two characters who endlessly wait for the arrival of a person named Godot is performed entirely in Yiddish with English supertitles. The cast features Allen Lewis Rickman (Relatively Speaking, Boardwalk Empire), who replaced Avi Hoffman in the role of Pozzo. Returning cast members include Rafael Goldwaser as Lucky, Shane Baker as Vladimir, New Yiddish Rep's Artistic Director David Mandelbaum as Estragon, and nine-year-old Nicholas Jenkins as the boy.
Moshe Yassue directs the production, with an authorized translation by Shane Baker.
