Andrew Samonsky and Mara Davi to Lead Industry Reading of Broadway-Bound Somewhere in Time

A musical adaptation of the romantic fantasy novel and film is in the works.

A private industry reading of the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel and Universal Pictures film Somewhere in Time will be held this Thursday, July 31 in midtown Manhattan.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Dan Knechtges (Xanadu), the reading will feature Broadway's Andrew Samonsky (South Pacific) as Richard Colliet and Mara Davi (The Drowsy Chaperone) as Elise McKenna. The cast also includes Cal Alexander,Erin Burniston, Phil Carroll, David Cryer, Janet Dickinson, Ryan Duncan, Janet Dunn, Robin Haynes, Lizzie Klemperer, Denis Lambert, Jared Q. Miller, Burke Moses, Benjie Randall, Britt Swanson Cryer, and Jessica L. Vosk.

Based on Matheson's novel and its subsequent film adaptation starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, Somewhere in Time follows young playwright Richard Collier who has an encounter with a mysterious old woman on the opening night of his earliest success. Years later, with his life and career in disarray he checks into a storied hotel for some quiet contemplation and finds himself traveling back in time to the year 1912 where he falls in love with an actress from the past.

The stage-adaptation original music is by Doug Katsaros and lyrics by Amanda Yesnowitz, with a book by Ken Davenport. The production had its world premiere production in spring 2013 at Portland Center Stage, starring Andrew Samonsky.
