Drama Desk Award nominee Joely Richardson (The Tudors) will return to the stage in an off-Broadway revival of William Luce's The Belle of Amherst, set to play the Westside Theatre beginning October 7. Directed by Steve Cosson, the solo drama will officially open October 19.

Richardson plays 15 different characters in the play, which offers a portrait of the life of Emily Dickinson through her writings, her encounters with friends and family, and her own amusing observations. The Belle of Amherst premiered on Broadway in 1976 and earned its star, Julie Harris, one of her five Tony Award wins.

The creative team includes Antje Ellermann (scenic design), David Weiner (lighting design), and Daniel Kluger (sound design). Don Gregory, who produced the original Broadway run, returns to produce this revival.

Richardson's recent New York stage credits include Ivanov opposite Ethan Hawke at Classic Stage Company and Side Effects opposite Cotter Smith at MCC Theater. Her many TV and film roles include the television series Nip/Tuck, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and 101 Dalmatians.
