After weeks of rumors, Tony and Academy Award winner Denzel Washington has confirmed to The Associated Press that he will return to Broadway this spring in a revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s acclaimed drama A Raisin in the Sun.

“We start previews in March,” Washington, who won a Tony in 2010 for his performance as Troy Maxson in August Wilson’s Fences, told the AP.

No official information about the revival, which is expected to be helmed by Kenny Leon, has been announced, but Washington, expected to play Walter Lee Younger, has taken it upon himself to promote the drama. On July 30, he told television hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that the production will also star Tony Award winner Diahann Carroll as Lena Younger, in her first stage appearance in thirty years.

A Raisin in the Sun was last seen on Broadway in 2004, in a production that was also directed by Leon. It starred Sean Combs as Walter Lee, Sanaa Lathan as Beneatha, Phylicia Rashad as Lena, and Audra McDonald as Ruth. Rashad and McDonald both won Tonys for their work.
