Signature Theatre Artistic Director James Houghton and Executive Director Erika Mallin have announced complete casting for their upcoming world premiere production of Horton Foote's The Old Friends. Directed by Horton Foote veteran Michael Wilson (The Trip to Bountiful), the production will run on the Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center from August 20 through September 29, with an official opening set for September 12.
As previously announced the cast will include Tony Award winner Betty Buckley (Sunset Boulevard) as Gertrude Hayhurst Sylvester Ratliff, Tony Award nominee Hallie Foote (The Orphans' Home Cycle) as Sibyl Borden, and Tony Award nominee Lois Smith (The Trip to Bountiful) as Mamie Borden. Joining these stars will be Tony Award nominee Veanne Cox (A Free Man of Color) as Julia Price; Adam LeFevre (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as Albert Price; Sean Lyons (Gore Vidal's The Best Man) as Tom Underwood; Novella Nelson (It's Kind of a Funny Story) as Hattie; Melle Powers (Chappelle's Show) as Catherine; and Cotter Smith (Next Fall) as Howard Ratliff.
The creative team also includes Jeff Cowie (scenic design), David C. Woolard (costume design), Rui Rita (lighting design), John Gromada (sound design), and Paul Huntley (wig and hair design).
The Old Friends follows matriarch Mamie Borden (Smith) and the remaining members of two Texas farming families. When Mamie's son, Hugo, and his wife, Sybil, arrive with surprising news, old friends are forced to take opposing sides and confront issues regarding "legacy, loyalty, and the meaning of happiness."
