Tony Award-Winning Best Play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike Recoups Investment After Just 17 Weeks

The play, which stars Sigourney Weaver and David Hyde Pierce, will close on August 25.

Christopher Durang’s new Tony-winning comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, has recouped its investment after just 17 weeks on Broadway. The production is currently playing at the Golden Theatre, where it has extended its run twice. The closing date is set for August 25.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike stars Tony Award nominees Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Billy Magnussen, and Shalita Grant, as well as Genevieve Angelson. It is directed by Tony Award nominee Nicholas Martin.

The play is a comic variation on Chekhovian themes, following Vanya (David Hyde Pierce) and his sister Sonia (Kristine Nielsen), who still live in their childhood home. When their glamorous movie-star sister Masha (Sigourney Weaver) returns home with her new beau-hunk, Spike (Billy Magnussen), their quotidian lives are thrown into disarray.

Tony winner Julie White will take over the role of Masha on July 30.
