The Tony-nominated production of Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful, currently playing the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, has extended its run through October 9. Michael Wilson (Gore Vidal’s The Best Man) directs the production, which stars 2013 Tony Award winner Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams, Condola Rashad, and Tom Wopat.

The Trip to Bountiful is the story of an elderly woman named Carrie Watts (Tyson) who longs to return to her hometown of Bountiful, Texas. She leaves on her journey against the wishes of her overprotective son (Gooding) and his bossy wife (Williams). Along the way, she meets a girl (Rashad) with whom she reminisces about her past.

This production of the play, Broadway’s first in over 30 years, already extended its original 14-week limited engagement once (through September 1).
