MCC Theater has announced that its Youth Company’s FreshPlay Festival will run July 12-24 at Telsey + Company and will feature the work of five young playwrights. All performances are free and open to the public.

The playwrights selected from MCC Theater Youth Company, a free after-school program for New York City high school students, will receive a combined 100 hours of workshops under the guidance of five professional directors over the course of three days. The process will also feature the participation of over 30 performers and young artists from the Youth Company’s Acting Lab. Each play will receive a culminating reading.

The FreshPlay Festival creative team includes Lucy Thurber (artistic director), Caroline Azano (producer), Alec Silberblatt (co-producer), and Lyssa Deehan (co-producer).

The plays and playwrights selected for the festival are: Lily Houghton’s Red Door, directed by Jenna Worsham (July 12 at 8pm); Sasha Duprey’s Over the Horizon, directed by Margaret Hoffman (July 13 at 3pm); Michael Sypa’s Adonis the Great and Icarus’s Wings, directed by Emily Zemba (July 13 at 5pm); Yadira Guevara-Prip’s All Rants and Prom Night Pep Talk, directed by George Carruth (July 14 at 3 pm); and Isaiah Leaks’ Dennis and Sarah, directed by Steve DiUbaldo (July 14 at 5pm).

MCC Theater carries out its mission to produce new work that challenges artists and rewards audiences through an annual season of world, American, and New York premieres as well as educational and development programs.
