Manhattan Theatre Club’s Choir Boy Opens Off-Broadway

Tarell Alvin McCraney’s new play with music stars Jeremy Pope, Chuck Cooper, and Austin Pendleton.

Manhattan Theatre Club celebrated its final off-Broadway opening of the 2012-2013 season with Tarell Alvin McCraney’s new drama, Choir Boy, on July 2. Directed by Trip Cullman, the production, at MTC’s Studio at Stage II, stars Jeremy Pope as a young school choir leader who must contend with classmates’ taunts and find his own identity. Joining Pope are Chuck Cooper, Austin Pendleton, Wallace Smith, Grantham Coleman, Kyle Beltran, and Nicholas L. Ashe.
