Lincoln Center Theater’s LCT3 Announces 2013-2014 Season of Three New Works

Plays by JC Lee, Rude Mechs, and Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar make up the season.

Lincoln Center Theater has announced the productions set for the 2013-2014 season of LCT3, the theater’s programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences. The season will begin with the world premiere of Luce, playwright JC Lee’s tale of a teacher who makes a damaging discovery about an all-star high school student. May Adrales (The Dance and the Railroad) will direct the production, which will run October 5-November 17 with an opening on October 21.

Following Luce will be the world premiere of the Rude Mechs’ Stop Hitting Yourself, an examination of how to honor individualism without disavowing charity, borrowing from Pygmalion to Busby Berkley. The production will run January 13-February 23 and open on January 27. The season’s final offering will be Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar’s new play The Who and The What. Kimberly Senior (Disgraced) will direct this look at the chasm between our traditions and our contemporary lives when it plays May 31-July 13. The Who and The What will open June 16.

In addition, LCT3’s special events series will continue this summer with a return engagement of Young Jean Lee’s Theater Company’s We’re Gonna Die, which will play 10 performances from August 5-17 in the Claire Tow Theater.
