Kate Whoriskey to Direct David Grimm’s Tales From Red Vienna at Manhattan Theatre Club

The world premiere will open on March 18, 2014.

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced plans to present the world premiere of Tales From Red Vienna, a play by David Grimm (Measure for Pleasure), as part of its 2013-2014 theatrical season. Kate Whoriskey (Ruined) will direct. The production will begin previews February 26 and open March 18.

Tales From Red Vienna tells the story of Heléna, a woman who lost her husband and financial security in World War I. Struggling to maintain her way of life, she becomes part of an illicit underworld. Heléna manages to separate her secret life from her public persona until she crosses paths with a man who has the power to expose and ruin her.

Casting and creative team for the play will be announced in the coming weeks.

MTC has become one of the country’s most prominent and prestigious theater companies, with productions earning a total of 19 Tony Awards and six Pulitzer Prizes in the last three decades.
