A Christmas Story, The Musical! to Play Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

The Broadway theater has been announced for the previously reported holiday engagement of A Christmas Story, The Musical!, which is set to play the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, November 5- December 30, with an opening on November 19.

Based on the 1983 holiday movie perennial, the show features a score by composer/lyricist team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Joseph Robinette based on the writings of radio humorist Jean Shepherd and the 1983 holiday film favorite. The Broadway production will be based upon the show’s national tour from last year, directed by Tony Award winner John Rando with choreography by Warren Carlyle.

Set in 1940’s Indiana, the show centers on young Ralphie who has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas — a Red Ryder BB Gun. A kooky leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a cranky department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas dream. The film’s original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, is among the producers of the Broadway production.

The production will feature scenic design by Walt Spangler; costume design by Elizabeth Hope Clancy; lighting design by Howell Binkley; sound design by Ken Travis; wig design by Tom Watson; orchestrations by Larry Blank; music direction and supervision by Ian Eisendrath; dance music arrangements by Glen Kelly; and vocal arrangements by Justin Paul.

Casting will be announced in the near future.
