Wallace Shawn, Scott Shepherd, Maura Tierney Set for September 11 Still Waters in a Storm Benefit

Wallace Shawn, Scott Shepherd, and Maura Tierney will read from Peter Carey’s writings in a special event to be held on Sunday, September 11 at 6pm at the Performing Garage. Kate Valk and Frances Coady will host the performance, which will raise funds for Still Waters in a Storm, a Brooklyn-based grassroots literacy program.

Carey is the author of 11 novels and the winner of numerous international literary prizes, including the Booker Prize in 1988 and 2001, and was a finalist for the Booker and the National Book Award in 2010.

Still Waters in a Storm offers home-school programs, immersive fieldtrips, reading and writing lessons and one-on- one interaction with award-winning authors, to help improve students’ grades. In addition, the group provide individual, full and part time remedial literacy instruction for all levels and ages.
