Rebecca Musical to Begin Broadway Run in March

The musical version of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca will begin performances on Broadway on March 27 at a theater to be announced. The show, which will open officially on April 22, will be co-directed by Michael Blakemore and Francesco Zambello.

No casting has been announced, although Sierra Boggess — who is currently appearing on Broadway in Master Class — is in negotiations for the lead role of “I”.

With original book by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton, and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze, the show tells the story of Maxim de Winter, his new wife (“I”). and Mrs. Danvers, the controlling and manipulative housekeeper of Maxim’s West Country estate of Manderley – where the memory of his first wife, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow.

Blakemore has won Tony Awards for his direction of Copenhagen and Kiss Me, Kate. Among his other Broadway credits are his Tony Award-nominated productions of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Noises Off, City of Angels, Lettice and Lovage, and The Life.

Zambello is currently general and artistic director of the Glimmerglass Festival and artistic advisor for the Washington National Opera. Her work in theater includes Little Mermaid and Little House on the Prairie.
