Lyricist Fran Landesman Has Died

Fran Landesman, who wrote the lyrics for many popular songs and musicals, has died at age 83, according to published reports.

Landesman’s work only appeared once on Broadway, in 1959 The Nervous Set, which featured music by her frequent collaborator, Tommy Wolf, and a book by her husband, Jay. The show featured the song, “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most,” which was her best-known lyric.

Other musicals she contributed on included Molly Darling, A Walk on the Wild Side, and Dearest Dracula.


She also performer her own work around the world, including Joe’s Pub, the Gaslight Theater, and various venues in and around London, where she lived.


She is survived by her sons Cosmo and Miles.
