Enid Graham, Michael McKean, John Douglas Thompson, Jay O. Sanders, Sam Waterston Set for the Public’s 2011-2012 Season

Michael McKean, John Douglas Thompson, and Enid Graham will play, respectively, Gloucester, Kent and Goneril, opposite the previously announced Sam Waterston in the title role, in Shakespeare’s King Lear, to run October 18 – November 20 at the Public Theater. James Macdonald will direct the production.

McKean’s recent stage credits include Superior Donuts, Hairspray, and The Homecoming on Broadway. Thompson’s Broadway credits include Julius Caesar and Cyrano de Bergarac. Graham has been seen on Broadway in Honour, The Constant Wife, Dinner at Eight, and Fortune’s Fool.

Additional casting will be announced shortly for this tragedy about the violence that erupts after the title character announces his decision to split his kingdom between his three daughters.

In related news, the Public has announced that Jay O. Sanders will play the title role in Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, running November 29 – December 18. Directed by Michael Sexton, this play centers on the cycle of violence that erupts between the Roman general and the Queen of the Goths.
