Viola Davis, Allison Janney, Bryce Dallas Howard, et al. to Star in Film Version of The Help

Two-time Tony Award winner Viola Davis, Drama Desk Award winner Allison Janney, and stage and screen star Bryce Dallas Howard have been cast in Tate Taylor’s film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel The Help, according to EW.com.

The film, which will also star Emma Stone and Octavia Spencer, is set in 1962 and concerns a young white woman who collects the stories of the black women on whom the country club set relies.

Davis won the 2010 Tony as Best Actress in a Play for Fences and previously won the Tony as Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in King Hedley II. Janney won the Drama Desk as Best Actress in a Musical for 9 to 5 and has also starred on Broadway in A View from the Bridge and Present Laughter. Howard appeared on Broadway in Tartuffe.
