Tony Award Nominee James Gammon Dies at 70

James Gammon, who founded the MET Theatre in Los Angeles and later earned a Tony Award nomination for the Broadway production of Sam Shepard’s Buried Child, died in Costa Mesa on Friday, June 16. He was 70 years old.

In addition to Buried Child, Gammon appeared in a number of Shepard’s plays, including Curse of the Starving Class, A Lie of the Mind, Simpatico, and The Late Henry Moss.

Gammon’s many film and television credits include Major League, Urban Cowboy, The Milagro Beanfield War, Slverado, Cold Mountain, and Nash Bridges.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, their daughters, Allison Mann and Amy Gammon, his brother, Phillip Gammon, and his sister, Sandra Glaudell.
