Corbin Bleu, currently starring in Broadway’s In The Heights, participated in a bone marrow drive at DKMS, on Friday, July 16. He was “swabbed” to see if he could become a potential donor.

The Broadway community has responded to the drive, in order to support 11-year-old Shannon Tavarez, who played Young Nala in the musical The Lion King, and has been diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. Tony Award winner Trent Kowalik, of Billy Elliot the Musical fame, was also volunteering at DKMS on Friday.

As previously reported, cast and crew members from The Lion King will be on hand to greet fans at another Bone Marrow Drive, to be held at the Minskoff Theatre on Friday, July 23, 10am-3pm.

Bleu played basketball player Chad in the television incarnations of High School Musical and the 2008 feature film. His other screen credits include Catch That Kid and Free Style. Also a recording artist, Bleu released his second solo album, Speed of Light, earlier this year.
