Lindsay Duncan, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, et al. Set for Abbey Theatre’s John Gabriel Borkman, New York Engagement Planned for January

The Abbey Theatre has announced its slate of productions for the 2010-2011 season, which will include Henrik Ibsen’s John Gabriel Borkman (October 6 – November 20) in a new version by Frank McGuinness, to be directed by James Macdonald. The company will feature Alan Rickman in the title role, Fiona Shaw as Gunhild and Lindsay Duncan as Ella, along with Cathy Belton, John Kavanagh, Amy Molloy, Marty Rea and Joan Sheehy. Subsequent to its presentation in Dublin, the production is scheduled to play New York in January 2011 at a theater to be announced.

Also on the Abbey’s schedule for 2010-2011 is Carmel Winters’ B For Baby (September 24 – November 6); Annie Ryan’s award-winning production of Michael West’s Freefall (November 23 – December 4), which will be presented by The Corn Exchange; Dion Boucicault’s Arrah Na Pogue (December 15 – February 5), to be directed by Mikel Murfi and featuring Aaron Monaghan and Marry Murray; James Thiérrée;s Raoul (February 16-26); and Paul Mercier’s The Passing and The East Pier (March 11 – April 16), which will be presented in repertory.

In addition to its productions in Dublin and its New York presentation of John Gabriel Borkman, the theater will launch a U.S. tour of Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus in 2011, which will launch in Boston, and also include engagements in Middlebury, Philadelphia, Durham, Norfolk, Chicago, Maryland, and Columbus.
