HBO’s Boardwalk Empire to Debut on September 19

HBO will debut the period drama Boardwalk Empire, which revolves around the life of 1920s Atlantic City bigwig Nucky Thompson, on September 19, according to TVGuide.com. Oscar winner Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and is the series’ executive producer

The show will star Steve Buscemi as Thompson, as well as stage veterans Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Pitt, Gretchen Mol, Michael Shannon, Paul Sparks, Nili Sturgis, and Dabney Coleman.

The cast will also feature Kelly MacDonald, Shea Whigham, Anthony Laciura, Stephen Graham, Aleksa Palladino, Vincent Piazza, Paz de la Huerta, and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Scorsese won the Oscar for The Departed and his many other films include Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Goodfellas, New York, New York, The Aviator, and Shutter Island. He is currently filming Hugo Cabret.
