Stew and Heidi Rodewald to Develop New Show at NYMF

The New York Musical Theatre Festival has announced additional programming for its 2009 Festival, including a developmental reading of Punk Princess, featuring book and lyrics by Yasmine Lever and music by Passing Strange creators Stew and Heidi Rodewald. In the piece, rebellious blue blood Clare can’t get accepted into the early ’80s London post-punk music scene, so she escapes to Manhattan with American hustler named Andy. Together, they reinvent her past as a “Watford slumdog” and launch Clare into musical stardom.

Additional programming will also include two dance musicals. Andy Warhol Was Right features a concept by Melinda Atwood, Sammy Buck, Dan Acquisto, Daryl Gray, and Shea Sullivan, with book by Sammy Buck and music by Dan Acquisto. Giovanna Sardelli directs, with choreography by Daryl Gray and Shea Sullivan. Encore has a concept by Daniel Gwirtzman, music by various artists, and direction and choreography by Gwirtzman.

Special events will include Count To Ten, with book by Michael Blevins, lyrics by Blevins and Beth Clary, and music by Blevins, Scott Knipe, Bruce Sacks, and David Wollenberger; Deep Cover, featuring book, music and lyrics by Michael Wolk; The Greenwood Tree, with music and concept by Will Reynolds and text by Shakespeare; Letters To Daddy, Jr., with book by Jill Jaysen, music and lyrics by Mark Shepard, conceived and developed by 4e Productions; Liberty, with book and lyrics by Dana Leslie Goldstein and music by Jonathan Goldstein; Moisty the Snowman Saves Christmas, with book and lyrics by Bradford Scobie, music by Bradford Scobie and Christian Dyas; One Night Stand, by Quinn Beswick, Adam Cochran, Kobi Libii, Samantha Martin, Josh Margolin, Jonah Platt, Mollie Taxe, and Andrew Resnick; Rated RSO: The Songs of Ryan Scott Oliver; and R.R.R.E.D: A Secret Musical, with book by Adam Jackman, Katie Thompson, and Patrick Livingston with music and lyrics by Katie Thompson.

Developmental readings will also include Live! Nude! Girl! with book and lyrics by Donna Kaz with music by Wayne Barker and The Nightingale and the Satin Woman, with book by William Kotzwinkle and Elizabeth Gundy, with music and lyrics by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, based on the book Herr Nightingale and the Satin Woman.
